Listen to this article

Once upon a time, in a grand kingdom filled with golden towers and velvet gardens, there lived an emperor who adored clothes. Not just any clothes—he loved outfits so dazzling they could make the sun jealous. His closets overflowed with robes of silk, hats trimmed with peacock feathers, and shoes stitched with silver thread. But no matter how many outfits he owned, the emperor always wanted more. “Bring me the finest tailors in the land!” he’d declare, snapping his jeweled fingers. “I must have something new!”

One day, two strangers arrived at the palace gates. “We are master weavers,” they announced, bowing low. “Our cloth isn’t just beautiful—it’s magical.” The emperor’s eyes widened. “Magic? Tell me more!” The taller stranger smiled. “Only wise people can see our fabric. To fools, it’s invisible.” The emperor gasped. This is perfect, he thought. I’ll wear their clothes and discover who in my kingdom is clever—and who isn’t!

“Make me a suit at once!” he ordered. The weavers nodded. “We’ll need gold thread, rare silks, and a quiet room to work.” The emperor gave them everything. For days, the weavers pretended to weave, their empty looms clicking as they hummed. When the emperor sent his advisor to check their progress, the old man froze. I see nothing! he panicked. But remembering the weavers’ warning, he forced a grin. “Exquisite! The peacock patterns! The ruby stitching!” The weavers smirked. “We’re glad you appreciate our art.”

Soon, the whole kingdom buzzed about the magical clothes. At last, the weavers announced, “Your Majesty, your suit is ready!” They held up invisible pants, mimed buttoning a shirt, and even pretended to dust lint off a cloak. The emperor bit his lip. I see nothing… but I can’t admit it! “Magnificent!” he croaked. “Dress me immediately!” The weavers “helped” him into the fake clothes and gestured to a mirror. “Behold—the wisest ruler in history!”

Puffed with pride, the emperor paraded through town. Crowds cheered, too afraid to speak the truth. “What splendid robes!” “Look at those embroidered dragons!” Then—a little girl tugged her mother’s sleeve. “Why is the emperor in his underwear?” The crowd gasped. Someone giggled. Soon, laughter rippled across the square. The emperor’s face turned redder than his invisible sash. He realized the awful truth—he’d been tricked!

But then something wonderful happened. The emperor began… laughing too. “You’re right, little one! I’ve been very silly.” Turning to his people, he declared, “Today, I learned a lesson: Pretense is heavier than the fanciest robe. From now on, I’ll value honesty over vanity.” And so, the emperor returned to his palace—clothed in simple linen, but wiser than ever before.

The End

Sweet dreams, little ones! Remember: It’s brave to speak the truth, even when others stay silent. ✨
