The Tale of Two Bad Mice: Atime Bed Story

Listen to this article

Once upon a time, in a cozy little village, there was a beautiful dollhouse. It stood in the corner of a sunlit room, filled with all sorts of delightful things. There were tiny tea sets, miniature chairs, and even a little kitchen with pots and pans. The dollhouse was the pride of the village, and everyone who saw it marveled at its beauty and charm. But unbeknownst to the villagers, the dollhouse had a secret admirer¡ªor rather, two secret admirers.

In a small, dark hole under the floorboards lived two mice, Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb. They were not ordinary mice; they were quite mischievous. Every night, when the village was asleep and the moon hung high in the sky, they would scurry out of their hole and explore the world above. They had heard about the dollhouse and were curious to see what all the fuss was about.

The Tale of Two Bad Mice: Atime Bed Story

One night, driven by their curiosity, Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb decided to investigate the dollhouse. They crept up the stairs, their tiny hearts pounding with excitement. When they reached the room, they saw the dollhouse glowing in the moonlight. It looked like a magical castle, filled with treasures.

“Look at all these wonderful things!” whispered Hunca Munca, her eyes wide with wonder. “I’ve never seen anything so beautiful.”

Tom Thumb nodded in agreement. “We must explore it,” he said, his whiskers twitching with excitement.

They climbed up the side of the dollhouse and peeked inside. There were tiny pieces of bread, cheese, and even some sugary treats. The mice couldn’t resist. They began to nibble on the food, savoring every bite. But as they ate, they noticed something strange. The food didn’t taste quite right. It was hard and not very tasty at all.

“These treats are not as delicious as they look,” said Tom Thumb, frowning.

Hunca Munca nodded. “They are just like the toys in the dollhouse¡ªbeautiful but not real.”

Despite the food’s lack of flavor, the mice continued to eat. They were determined to enjoy their adventure. But as they ate, they began to feel a little guilty. They knew the dollhouse belonged to someone else, and they were taking things that didn’t belong to them.

“We shouldn’t be here,” said Hunca Munca, her voice filled with remorse. “We’re being naughty.”

Tom Thumb sighed. “You’re right. We should leave and never come back.”

But before they could leave, they heard a noise. It was the sound of footsteps approaching. The mice froze, their hearts pounding in their tiny chests. They knew they had to hide, but it was too late. The door to the room swung open, and a little girl named Emily walked in.

Emily was the owner of the dollhouse, and she was very proud of it. When she saw the two mice inside, she was shocked. “What are you doing in my dollhouse?” she demanded, her voice trembling with anger.

Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb were terrified. They knew they had done something wrong, and they were afraid of what would happen to them. But instead of scolding them, Emily looked at the mice with a kind expression on her face.

“I can see you’re hungry,” she said softly. “But you shouldn’t take things that don’t belong to you.”

The mice hung their heads in shame. “We’re sorry,” they said in unison. “We didn’t mean to be bad.”

Emily smiled gently. “I know. And I forgive you. But you must promise never to do it again.”

Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb nodded eagerly. “We promise,” they said.

Emily then reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of cheese. “Here,” she said, holding it out to the mice. “This is for you. And remember, it’s okay to be curious, but always ask before you take something.”

The mice took the cheese gratefully and scampered back to their hole under the floorboards. From that day on, they never went back to the dollhouse. Instead, they learned to be good neighbors, and Emily would often leave little treats for them outside her door.

And so, two the mice lived happily ever after, knowing that being good was much better than being naughty. And every night, as they snuggled into their cozy home, they would remember the kindness of Emily and the lesson they had learned.

The end.
