The Moonlit Rescue of the Sleepy Mutant

Listen to this article

Alright, little one… snuggle in tight… close your eyes… let me tell you about a night when even superheroes got tired.

It was late… very late… almost morning actually. The moon hung high over Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, looking like a giant silver cookie in the sky. Inside, most of the X-Men were fast asleep. Wolverine was curled up in his bunk, his claws tucked safely away, and Jean Grey was dreaming peacefully, her red hair fanned out on her pillow.

But one little mutant couldn’t sleep. Her name was Dani, and she was new to the school. She had special powers… she could walk through dreams and touch thoughts. But tonight, her own mind felt too big and quiet. She looked out her window at the snow-covered yard and sighed.

Suddenly, a soft whoosh broke the silence. It wasn’t an alarm; it was Storm. She floated down from the ceiling like a sleepy cloud. Even though she was the mighty Goddess of Thunder, tonight she just looked… cozy.

“Little one,” Storm whispered, her voice like velvet rain. “You look lonely.”

Dani nodded. “I can’t sleep. Everything feels too quiet.”

Storm smiled kindly. “Ah. Sometimes, even mutants need a lullaby.” She lifted her hand, and with a flick of her wrist, tiny glowing butterflies made of lightning flew across the room. They didn’t buzz or zap; they hummed a soft, sweet tune that sounded like wind chimes in a summer breeze.

As Dani watched, her eyelids grew heavy. But then, she heard another sound. A grumbling noise from outside.

Crunch. Crunch.

Storm’s eyes twinkled. “Sounds like someone else is having trouble sleeping too.”

They went to the window. There, in the snow, was Beast. He was huge and furry, but right now he looked like a sad, blue teddy bear. He was trying to build a snowman, but his massive paws kept squashing the snowballs.

“Oh no,” Dani said, sitting up. “He looks so cold and clumsy.”

“Shall we help him?” Storm asked, her voice already drifting into a soothing melody.

Dani nodded, and with a little jump, she used her power to step out onto the dreamy, soft snow. It didn’t feel cold at all. Beast saw them and waddled over, his big head drooping.

“My snowman keeps collapsing!” he sighed deeply. “And I’m too tired to fix it properly.”

“Don’t worry,” Dani said gently. She reached out with her mind, not to change anything, but just to calm him down. She pictured warm cocoa and a fireplace. Slowly, Beast’s shoulders relaxed. Storm summoned a gentle warmth around them, melting the sharp edges of the snow just enough to make packing easier.

Together, they rolled three perfect snowballs—one big, one medium, and one small. Dani used her powers to shape the arms perfectly, and Storm added a tiny hat woven from ice crystals. Beast placed the last carrot nose on top. He stepped back and sighed happily. His snowman wasn’t just standing; it was smiling.

“You fixed my snowman,” Beast murmured, his voice thick with sleep. “And you fixed me too.”

The three of them stood there for a moment, watching the snowman, the moonlight, and the swirling, sleepy snowflakes.

“Do you feel it?” Storm asked softly.

Dani did. The quiet wasn’t empty anymore. It was full of friendship.

“Time for bed,” Storm said, picking up the sleepy Dani. “The world is safe, the snow is soft, and the best dreams are just beginning.”

With a final, gentle hum, Storm carried Dani back to her room. As Dani lay down, she could hear Beast snoring softly in the distance, and the dream-butterflies still fluttering in the air.

So, little one… rest your head. The X-Men are all tucked in… the storm has passed… and the only thing left to do is sleep.

Goodnight.
